Weekend edition update of my journal part 1 (maybe there will be a part 2, because I have so much to write about)
1. MY dear Elga is back in NYC!!! Now I can call and speak to her whenever I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!!! There are some things I feel that only a very limited group of people understands and she is one of them, a very beautiful and sensitive person. I have so many stuff to share with her, because we have not been able to comunicate extensively in a few months, except for emails, which are nice but a very poor substitute a good phone conversation (which is itself a poor substitute fir a good conversation in person, but anyway...).
2. I had a great day today!! I hung out at my fav bookstore in Puerto Rico, La Tertulia, which is located in Rio Piedras. I had a great conversation there about contemporary hispanic literature and I learned a lot from the owner, Alfredo. I I bought the latest by Arturo Perez-Reverte, a novel by Mario Mendoza, "El viaje del Loco Tafur" and a book which I fell in love at first sight, a short stories anthology about sports culture. The stories deal with many different sports including football, baseball, track and field and many others, and not only regional competition but also Olimpic Games, World Cups, etc. Also, the introduction is so beautiful that it made me cry smile . I hope Elga loves it as much as me, as I bought it for her.
smile
3. I finished yesterday the latest novel by Greg Rucka, and his second prose work featuring Tara Chace (the main character in his "Queen and Country" comic book series). I fucking loved it!!!!!!!!! I just could not stop reading, and the ending is a bummer, but it works great, and I ended up feeling sad for Tara, and for the world, because you can bet that how political choices are protrayed in this book are also how they actually happen in real life. Also, I love the character development and I cannot wait for another book with Tara as the main character. smile smile
4. I discovered They might be giants!!!!!!! I mean, I knew they existed since the eighties, buit for some reason or another I have not given them any attention, until last week when I bought a recent compilation and fell in love, totally!!! love Every song is odd, weird and just magical, not only the songwriting but also the arrangements and the way they are recorded and produced, just amazing, everything from "Istanbul", "New York City", "Your racist friend", "James K. Polk", "Anna Ng", "Particle Man", and many many more. I want all olf their albums now, starting from their early work, and I have heard that "Flood" is their best album, I might try that one first. smile
5. Wow, I am fucking tired, I am alive on coffee, because I have been working a lot because we are remodeling the store and still we are not done, but I am free until tuesday, starting tomorrow, so hooray for me!!!!!
6. My dear Inocencia was born on May 18, my dear Zamira was born on May 9, so I have to buy a few gifts this month. I am hanging out with Inocencia on sunday, we will watch the latest Full Metal Alchemist dvd, which was released last week. I LOVE THAT SERIES!!! smile
Okay, enough writing for today, but hopefully there will be more tomorrow or on sunday because I still have to write about the other stuff I have read, more about music, etc. bye to all, have a kick-ass weekend!! smile
