Sometimes I have some days that just aren't enjoyable. I spent the majority of my Thursday dealing with Chicago area traffic since I had to go through the city twice to get up by Milwaukee (and back out). Yeah, that pretty much sucked, especially since it meant the bulk of my actual miles were still ahead of me by 5pm. But the Indiana and Ohio turnpikes are great roads, once you get past the Gary area. So it was smooth sailing from that point on.

The Ohio turnpike in particular is one of the better roads you can travel on. (In complete contrast to the Pennsylvania turnpike, incidentally). The Ohio road has plenty of service plazas that actually have ample parking for big trucks. Some of them have decent food choices. And they also offer free showers. (Something to keep in mind for any of you road-trippers. Just bring along your own soap and towel).

This morning I made my drop at the Pittsburgh post office, and it was completely headache free. Postal freight can be really hit-or-miss. MOST of the time, I've gotten in and out of them relatively quickly and without serious hassle. A few of them (such as the bulk mail center in Cincinnati) has been annoying. At that particular one, even though they unloaded my trailer relatively quickly... I had to wait around for two hours before they even started. Meh. But like I was saying... this morning's trip to Pittsburgh was smooth sailing. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm killing some time right now with another unhealthy Waffle House breakfast. I recommend the Fiesta Omelet with the Casa de Waffle salsa. Extra jalapenos and black coffee. Then I'll have a shower at the Hubbard, Ohio Flying J (I go to the Flying J chain of truck stops more than the others). Then I'll make a pickup at General Electric in Niles, Ohio. It is a run-down, pathetic little town on the eastern side of the state. Actually most of the towns in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania are a bit on the run-down and pathetic side. It's an area that relied so heavily on steel and manufacturing, that when such industries took a dive... the entire areas really went to shit as well. It's sort of sad seeing all those broken, empty factories that used to be thriving businesses "back in the day". I can imagine how the area must have really thrived around the World War II era. And now it looks like it might after the Luftwaffe finished a bombing run.

I'll take that load down to Winchester, Kentucky... which is generally in the Lexington area. I tend to go there a lot, which is fine with me. After that, I will most likely get a trip towards the homestead since I have about 6 days off ahead of me. Lots to do, though. This isn't a real vacation or anything. That will have to wait until autumn.

The weather is nice and the wheels keep a' rollin'. Life is good.

First of all, me and two other guys run the banquet department at the Four Points Sheraton in Ann Arbor. Weddings, conferences, conventions, bar mitzvah's and the like. Not too bad of a gig sometimes.

Your last comment totally ended up bashing on all the places that I like and hang out in. But that is alright!

Yeah, pittsburgh is a city that is in trouble. Much like detroit was about 7 years ago or so. The "D" as us retarded Ohioians that live in michigan like to call Detroit, is on the up and up! Murder is down and the downtown area is totally being turned into something different and it is becoming alive again! I guess what I am trying to say is that detroit was much, much worse of a shit-hole than it is now!

Now it is time to take a leak on Boston! Hehehehe. My boston story.

I had two friends that lived in Jamaica Plains. One went to school and the other one just worked at a bookstore. So a friend of mine and myself went out to visit them. Once we got into their neighborhood, prolly around 11:30pm, we saw A TON of cops running around with M-16 looking guns drawn, riot gear on, and lots of police dogs running all around! Turns out a cop got shot like 10 minutes before we got into their neighborhood. That happened the first night we were there. Three nights later, we were watching a movie and hear all these car wheels screeching, then we hear gunshots. Not far away, BUT RIGHT OUTSIDE THE FRONT WINDOW! Someone shot someone in the pizza joint like 3 houses down from my friends crib! We saw the shooter, the gun, and the getaway car! It was crazy. And you say Detroit is bad!

Two shootings in less than a week! It was crazy! Besides that I have no problem with the city of boston! I love the old cemetaries the best.

My post is getting long, so I am done.
Have a great day on the road!

I don't want to jump ship from swift too soon unless things get real intolerable. After several months there I'll either want to go somewhere else or do the lease operator thing. I don't imagine being a lease operator would really pay any more than the average company driver gets, but there is a bit more independence and the kenworth trucks are very nice. I can't say I love my volvo. It breaks down too much. The cummins engine doesn't break, but it's pretty paltry at 400 hp when you've go 30,000 or more pounds on.
