So on Friday I lost my ability to carry hazardous materials. It's not really THAT big of a deal because my company doesn't deal with that cargo anyhow. And I'll regain the authorization to carry them again. But I've got to jump through a few hoops first.
I'll also say that after more than a decade away, on Friday I (finally) became an official Rhode Island resident again. Despite the fact that I've been back for about a year I just never got around to changing my license. So on Friday I moseyed on down to the DMV building... which apparently now occupies the former Apex department store in Pawtucket. And it is pretty much still just as fucked up as the last time I had the (dis)pleasure of dealing with it. So to make a long story short, after lots of waiting around I finally turned in my Connecticut license only to discover that my Haz-Mat certification doesn't automatically transfer over. You used to just take a test whenever you had to renew it. No problem. Well... NOW you have to get a full background check by the department of homeland security. And fingerprinted. At -MY- expense.
Ok so I sorta understand why... but frankly that's still bullshit. I should be grandfathered in at this point. For chrissake I am a goddamn veteran of the Marine Corps and Gulf War #1. But I guess someone needs to steal my $94 in order for them to certify that I'm not a terrorist that's going to explode a trailer full of manure in the middle of the George Washington bridge.
Anyhow... the discussion about possibly leaving SG isn't something that would be immediate since I subscribe for a year at a time. But the reasons are... well... in my opinion correct. There've been a number of practices here by management that I've only really found out about recently and I can't say that I approve. And a fair number of girls have either left because of it or been affected by it in some way. And having heard their side of the story... I feel like SG might not be so deserving of my $4 a month. We'll see.
Suffice to say my friendship with someone like Eli is much more valuable to me that seeing some new pussy. Besides, there's "new pussy" all over the place and that was never what this community was really all about to me.
Nothing's happening immediately so don't panic. I can't really be more specific in my explanation (publicly) without risk of being zotted though. Supposedly.
