Rhode Island is pretty much one big "hometown" really.

Another sure way to recognize a truck driver: all of said person's t-shirts develop a diagonal line across the chest (from the seatbelt). Even fresh out of the laundry.

Well... I was planning to spend a night at home but that plan got ruined by one of my least favorite customers. There's a business in Butler, Indiana called Therma-Tru that makes doors and windows and other building supplies. The trips they give us are decent, with plenty of work going to New England (I seem to get a lot of Maine trips in particular). However they just never seem to have the load ready at the promised time. Yesterday was the third time I've been there for a pickup in the last month, and the third time I ended up waiting around for hours past my appointment time.

The load was promised at 5pm. Nope... so I checked back in a couple hours. Still not ready... one of the guys there said he's come get me in my truck when it was finished loading. Well... at 4:45 am today I get a knock on the truck and the word that it was finished. Twelve fucking hours later. Needless to say, I recorded my time in and time out on the paperwork because my company will pay me ten bucks an hour for the time I waited. But that's small consolation because (a) it's isn't even half of what I'd normally make while actually driving, and (b) I was now 12 hours behind schedule. I'm in no jeopardy of the load being late... in fact, I can get it done over two days without even working very hard. But there isn't any time to stop at home now. Oh sure... I could have busted my ass today and gotten ALMOST home... and then done a couple more hours on Wednesday and be at home. But since the load is due at 7am in Saco, Maine on Thursday... it just isn't worth the effort. I'd either have to leave again the same day I got home, or get up at about 3am on Thursday. Neither of which is particularly appealing. So oh fucking well.

Honestly, it doesn't phase me much. But I can see how someone with valid reason to be home (wife or kids or whatever) could really get pissed off with situations like this.

But I'm easy going. wink

Deja Vu all over again, Eh? Glad it's your company and not whatever one I eventually work for that hauls for them, hee hee.

That does suck though. Take care.
