Rhode Island is pretty much one big "hometown" really.

Well, I got lucky in that the insanely loud truck that had pulled in next to me stayed for about an hour and then left. Which was an indescribable relief because then the trucks on either side of me were NOT running (and not refrigerator trucks either) and we all enjoyed a nice quiet night's sleep.

Today sucked pretty bad though. I've been driving ALL day and I only got 380 miles. We can blame that on pretty much the worst traffic jam I have ever seen. It more or less lasted from the New Jersey / Delaware state line south to Quantico, Virginia. I mean litterally I was stop and go every few miles that whole way. I was getting excited whenever I got up to about 40-50 mph... just to get a mile down the road and find out that it was only what I refer to as the "slinky effect". Rather than move at a nice uniform (albeit, slow) speed, jams tend to constantly stop and go producing a "slinky" like movement of the vehicles on the road.

This mega-traffic-jam was like 150 miles long. Seriously frickin' annoying as I was planning to get to South Carolina today rather than the middle of Virginia. But whatever, it isn't like I don't have a shitload of time to get where I'm going. I'd like to get there and take 34 hours off to reset my log book however. (But it isn't even like I really need to do that since I reset the books just two days ago anyhow).

All the southbound traffic today made me think that it would likely be pretty stupid to expect a fun time at any of the Florida theme parks. They'll probably be so jam packed with people that the whole day would be spent standing in line. Yeah... standing in line sounds like a really nice break from driving in traffic.

I guess I'll just get where I'm going and play Everquest or some shit.

Sunday morning edit:

You know what's nice though? Sure, this 4-day trip doesn't have many miles (considering that I have 4 days to do it). But it certainly is nice to have the time and freedom to wake up on a Sunday, turn off my alarm and decide I'm not quite done sleeping yet. Then go have breakfast in the restaurant after finally waking up. And despite all of it, I'm not late and it doesn't matter.

Well I guess that blows. You're still making a lot more doing your 380 miles than I do at my wage slave job. Got a message on my machine yesterday that I had missed this orientation for NETTTS that noone seems to have seen fit to inform me of beforehand. I might have to defer two weeks till the next class start but they told me to call monday and I might still be able to start when I wanted to. I hope I can since yankee candle shuts down for the week of the fourth and I was looking forward to a week of just classes and not work and classes. Whatever happens is not ultimately a big deal and if nothing else next week i'll look for a job that's closer to home than YC and doesn't leave the heavy scent impression. Yankee candle employs its own drivers but apperently it's damn hard to get in there.

Well, breath of a thousand camels, and all that.
