I have a weekend trip to New Hampshire. I'll get to stop at home on the way but only for a couple of hours at most. Seriously, that is it.

At least I can get more of my prescription and hopefully do my laundry. Wont be time to go out or see anybody, and I can't even spend the night. If I didn't need more...

New Hampshire is beautiful! I very much enjoyed it the last time i visited there. And god forbid if you pass a tractor! tongue I actually laughed outloud about that!

I'm not so sure how I feel about this top-5-friends business. It seems to me that if you don't pick anyone, then 5 are randomly placed there each time you refresh the page. To be honest, it isn't like my friends list is overflowing anyhow so I think it'd be best to not pick. When I request or approve a friendship then I genuinely make...

What's brown and sticky?

dashiznit:
Thanks for understanding! So many people just don't so it's nice to finally hear from someone who does! And I hope you get home soon! You've been midwest here for a while and it gets incredibly boring out this way! smile

The best place in America to get awesome Mexican food is in the border towns. For example, in Laredo you can find a good number of beat-up old jallopy Winnebagos hanging around curbside in the industrial parks. Frequently surrounded by a few tractor-trailers and cars. These old RVs serve as kitchens for some fantastic food. Yes that's right... buying and eating food from a shitty...

I believe I did look into those companies you mentioned a ways back. If I recall correctly I mostly found that their training facilities are very far away. Good idea though.

It is 104F in Laredo. Cripes. Got the curtains drawn in the truck and blasting the AC. It's a serious waste of fuel but since the truck doesn't have one of those new external air conditioners I'm sure as heck not going to sweat my ass off. I'm not paying for the fuel. Someone will complain about me letting the truck idle so long but...

I agree with you about the bookmarks thing. I checked that EVERYDAY. I hate that you can only see 3!

It will just take some time to get used to though. I REALLY did like the old layout though....

It'll be a busy weekend, but I got what I specifically asked for: a trip to Laredo. There's a brand-spanking-new Flying J truck stop down there that I'm intending to check out. I have a bit over 1200 miles to travel over the next two days. Not terribly hard or anything but they'll be long, full days. It'll be hot... but I love going south....

A trucker telling a motorcyclist about how bad drivers are is really preaching to the choir. Or addressing the same problem from different perspectives. A guy in the motorcycle discussion group just did a post about how an 87-year old man turned in front of him, and messed up his leg. Being a biker here in springfield will quickly tell you about how much stopping power you've got in your front brake.

I plan to keep my trailer for a while. I certainly don't ever plan to live entirely out of a truck. i would certainly have to have a massive yard sale and put a bunch of stuff in storage to do that.

Buying my own rig would certainly be exciting, but i guess the decision would just have to depend on sitting down with a pad and calculator and figuring out whether the numbers point to owership or employeeship. I've had the theory that for the first couple of years, (after the first year of learning what I'm doing) I might want to go completely bezerk and do as much long distance hauling as is humanly possible so as to make as much money as possible. I'd like to own a real house, even if I'm away a lot. Thing about that though is that though is sometimes I think I'd like to move out to buffalo or pittsburg where the real estate is way cheaper, as in a third of what it is around here. I could take classes at the local university and start myself an academic career after truckin for maybe ten years or so. No battle plan survives the first engagement so . . .

whatever. right now step one, or maybe it's step two, is to find a job that'll keep me alive while I'm in school.

Truckin, got my chips cashed in . . . I tend to get that Dead song stuck in my head lately.

Take care.

Yes, the bookmark sucks now but what to do...... blah. Oh well. I hope driving goes well and safe baby.

Once in a rare while I'll go 2 or 3 days without any real chance to get online and take care of business. It always amazes me how far "behind" I can get when I'm not able to surf every day.

I'll need to wait until this weekend to go through all my bookmarks and friends and see what's up with everyone. Busy now.

Easy day today. Go through St. Louis, all the way across Illinois, then half way into Indiana (to the Indy area). Piece of cake. Whenever possibe I set up my weekends to make Sundays a breeze.

Nothing much else to report really. Having a lazy breakfast in Warrenton, Missouri and then hitting the road.

MONDAY: Not much going on today either. Got in and out...

Things actually went better than expected yesterday and today. With a bit of excellent luck and/or timing in regards to traffic, I had very little delay getting past Chicago up to Milwaukee. I took the Skyway so that avoided a lot of the usual BS. Got a bit slow around where it merges back into 94 but it was moving at least. Ended up that...

THURSDAY: Got a potentially pain-in-the-ass trip to do today. First of all I make my scheduled delivery in the Lexington area. That's cool... it's a regular customer of ours and it was just a drop delivery (as opposed to a live-unload where I have to wait). Only takes a few minutes to get my next assignment (this is one of many reasons why I like...

Suicide blonde, was the color of her hair
Like a cheap distraction
For a new affair
She knew it would finish
Before it began
Woaah baby, you lost the plan
You wanna make her, suicide blonde
Love devastation, suicide blonde

I keep thinking about getting a television in my truck. Not sure. The only time I generally watch TV is when I'm at home. The thing is... traveling around means I'll either have to settle for whatever fuzzy local crap stations I can pick up, or subscribe to Dish Network or Direct TV. Not really sure if I want that expense.

Might be nice to...

I spent 1300 on mine. It does pretty good, but it is a far cry from the alienware I want.

Did you ever put a movie in... then have it come to the end and realize that you barely watched it?

Yeah, well I just sat through "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and barely looked at the television screen. Was it because I've seen it a dozen times already? Was it because I'm randomly surfing around SG? Or just generally bored that I don't have...

I'm not surprised that there's a high bullshit factor. But there has tended to be one in various carreers I've been in or looked into, be it teaching, retail, or real estate. At least the money's decent in truckin'.

At this point I THINK i'm interested in going over the road, a new term I've learned. In a 'screw'. See the country some and then when I'm sick of that do some more local hauling. I have a bit of a color blindness issue as well and my mom's diabetic and hypertensive but hopefully these things haven't kicked in in me yet.

About how many miles are you putting in a year, to get what you're earning?

I don't expect my training situation will be near-ideal like yours was but it should hopefully be at least adequate. I wonder how you came across my journal. A keyword search or from something I posted in a discussion group?
