I got this e-mail today, I thought I would share:
I am writing to you as a member of the extended family of Working
Assets to report on what we did together during this election.
Working Assets is dedicated to advancing a progressive social and
environmental agenda, and defending the hard-won gains from many
movements. We are officially and literally nonpartisan.
During this past election cycle, we committed to registering a million
new voters in support of building a better democracy. We actually
exceeded this goal, and did this through our own efforts and by
financially supporting field efforts by nonpartisan organizations.
This was a stunning and unprecedented effort.
But our efforts did not stop there.
We also joined the nonpartisan Election Protection Coalition and
recruited and placed over 10,000 volunteers in thousands of critical
precincts. Meanwhile, we mobilized our members to take action ahead
of the election in holding election officials accountable around a
range of voting rights issues, including prompt processing of
accepting new voter registration forms, allowing students to vote,
clarifying the rules on provisional ballots, and demanding paper
trails on voting machines. I have utterly no doubt that the election
was a much cleaner one than it would have been, due to our common
efforts.
Given the very long lines in many places, it is clear that we should
follow the practice of many other countries and make election day a
national holiday. Click below to urge your elected representatives to
make this a priority:

Now that the election is over, it is clear that the values we hold
dear will be under severe attack in the months and years to come. Rest
assured that we will never quit in our defense of a safe and peaceful
world, a healthy environment, and economic and social justice for all.
Many thanks for your efforts, be it as a poll monitor, a nonpartisan
canvasser getting voters to the polls, a donor to our voter
registration and election protection efforts, as an armchair activist
urging a recalcitrant Secretary of State to conduct a fair election,
or just as a Working Assets customer whose every bill remittance helps
support our efforts.
We look forward to working together in the future.
Warm regards
Michael Kieschnick
President
P.S. If you want to tell me what nonpartisan role Working Assets
should play in the coming months, I welcome your comments. I promise
to read them, but will not be able to respond to each one. Just e-mail
me at yourvotematters@workingassets.com.
