Wacky Free Agent Fun Day!
A year ago when the Cardinals signed Eckstein I scoffed. Not because of 2005, but because I knew Furcal was becoming a free agent, and that the Braves probably wouldn't resign him.
Seeing all the Furcal hullabaloo makes me wish the Cardinals were in on it. Maybe move Eckstein's rubber arm to second?
Nomar Garciaparra has said through his agent that he is willing to play other positions. I would love to see him sign for say, 5 million to play second. Though maybe the Cardinals should pass on such an injury prone starter.
I wonder if the looming steroids suspension will keep the Cardinals from going after Lawton. He's always been a solid on base corner guy with some pop.
I think the Cardinals will resign Reggie Sanders. I would like to see Hideki Matsui and Brian Giles get signed. Them with Grudzielanek or Nomar at second and a new stadium would mean that they could theoretically rake in enough dough to pay for it all, and have a super badass lineup. I would then keep Matsui in the keeper league over Bonds.
