Quite honestly I truly cannot find any threads where we discussed illegally downloading files. There is this one where we discussed alternatives to Kazaa. There was another from someone asking about trouble with eMule and another about BitTorrent and firewalls. However, none of these specifically discussed anything illegal. If you can find something let me know. I can't get to everything and I am sure something has slipped past me.
Is it possible to download something illegal off of the newsgroups or from eMule/Kazaa/BitTorrent? Sure. There are also groups specifically devoted to BitTorrent and downloading music. These are grey areas that are allowed by SG. With the thread in question it was pretty clear from the get-go that this was sort of shady.
I didn't mean to make that reply in the Group group sound so harsh. I guess I should have thrown a smiley in there somewhere huh?
