Ok. Nerd moment.
I was really bored last night, all of my regular anime shows I had been following ended, and I have no idea when the second season of Sekirei will air (GRRR). But needless to say I felt the need to hunt for something new. So I stumbled upon Tetsuwan Birdy Decode, I looked it up on Wikipedia, it started airing back in July and while the information given didn't floor me, it intrigued me enough to give it a whirl.
Here's the premise of the show in a nutshell. An investigator for the Space Federation is chasing some dangerous aliens/criminals who apparently have some really important thing called the Ryinku, her name is Birdy Cephelon (weird name, I know) and what ultimately happens is the two criminals land on earth where she takes on the alias of a human pop idol and tries to track them down. Months later she tracks one of them down and in a show off a high school guy named Tsutomu and his friend are at the wrong place at the wrong time and he ends up getting killed. In order to save his life Birdy transfers his mind into body and his body is sent back to the Federation to be repaired. Keep in mind, this is all the first episode.
That's really just the beginning, I ended up sitting through 12 episodes in a row. There's 13 total, the last episode aired in Japan just two days ago, so I have to wait a couple days until I can watch it online. But OH MY GOD. This show is amazing. It's not some stupid sci-fi show like Gundam, it has comedy, mystery, horror, romance. It has everything I could ever hope and then some. I'm completely blown away.
After trying to find episode 13, I discovered that the show was so popular in Japan that it will actually be another 13 episodes starting in January. There have been very little anime that I've just been in awe about, the last time I was this impressed by a show was with Welcome to the NHK, which remains probably one of my all time favorite shows.
It's 6:30 in the morning, I had no intention of staying up this late, but once I started watching, I couldn't stop.
AHHH!
