I am housesitting these dogs at this couples house. 2, 1 an older dog, a mutt, the other a year old huskey.

Very sweet animals. That is, until tonight.

Last night near the trashbin outside the house I saw a sweet white kitten. A stray I assumed, as it seemed to be looking for food. I thought nothing of it.

Today I worked a double, got to their home at 12:30am and because of this decided that instead of taking turns walking the dogs (so their leashes dont get tangled) I would allow them to roam free, do their business, play a little and come back inside. I use this laser pointed that they love, and they run back and forth to get it.

This was terrible idea, as after about 10 minutes the huskey spotted the kitten and went after it to play. The older dog.... not so much, as I would immediately find out.

I ran over to them and saw this dog killing this cat. She had her jaws around the thing, shaking furiously like nothing I've seen before, especially from such a docile animal. I grabbed her collar and banged against her head, chest and jaws with my fists, frantically trying to get her to let loose. In the midst of this the poor kitten had her claws out doing its best to defend against something so utterly terrifying. The cat was let loose, and in milliseconds the mutt yanked me along with her to the cat to crush and mangle the poor thing.

I finally got both dogs in the house, looking back, seeing the poor destroyed thing moving, trying with all of its will to live. I checked back outside, looked from afar at the kitten trying to crawl away to a safe place, most likely its legs broken, or spine, or whatever was left intact. I called a 24 animal hospital and they said it could cost up to $400. I told her I would check on the cat again and would call back if need be. Outside again, the cat was still. It had died.

After crying my goddamned eyes out and cleaning the scratches on my hand, wiping the blood off of the dogs snout, I grabbed me a shovel and cardboard box and retrieved the cat. I walked a few blocks to a grassy area and dug the sweet things grave. I named him/her Stirwood.

RIP Stirwood. frown
