I have to give myself more time to truely understand how i want to express my sadness about the Live SG show in chicago last night. I loved seeing a few of the girls up close, meeting some member friends in person, and having the opportunity to go to another event with friends and my girlfriend. However, i found myself victim to verbal hate crimes all night. My gf made a good point this morning that the show walked a fine indecisive line. It neither stayed true to burlesque, which can be seen as being very woman positive, but it also didnt go as far as a strip tease which woud have given the screaming men , and maybe some women what they wanted. The fine line the show walked led to some very unhappy audience members, some of whom thought they were going to see burlesque, some of whom thought they had come to see girls basically fuck on stage. The atmosphere was "titty bar" for sure, but then..no tits (for those who were screming it endlessly). It will take me longer to explain why hearing "show me your tities" and "i wanna see your wet, hot, pussy" is a violent thing to hear over and over again as a woman if you dont already understand. This does not hold a candle, however, to "stupid fucking dyke cunt" aimed directly at you. Is it so wrong to insist that the men around me try not to express verbal violence over and over and over again? I asked very calmly if the man next to me shouting all of these things would mind not doing so for the sake of people around him. For the rest of the night, i was bombarded with homophobic, sexist slurs from not just him, but 2 other men around him. So, yes im disappointed that the SG show set the show up to be basically a titty show and then didnt give the chauvistinic members of the auidience what they wanted. By doing that, the women in the audience felt their angry wrath.
