well i'll be godfuckingdamned - i have two pages of comments in my journal. i don't know when this became so important to me but i don't care 'cause it feels mighty good.
i'm listening to a cd i made yesterday. it's not perfect - but it's damned close. i mix breaks. breakbeat records on turntables. i almost never play outside of my house and i've only had the decks for about 9 months. it is pure fun - a hobby i can share with my friends. i have no aspirations of becoming a superstar dj - i just love the music.
long story short: i've been creating/designing/participating/involved in the club scene for 10 years. out of pure respect for their craft, i never picked up turntables and decided to be a dj. i was the designer/promoter and they were the mixmasters.
well, i'm older now and can't find a spot to hear what i want to hear so i buy the records and mix it myself. i don't get to practice as much as i'd like but i have a firm grasp of the fundamentals. and when i bust a freak-nasty badass mix i go fucking nuts...
the most recent cd i made is the best so far. like i said, it's not perfect, but it still rocks like all hell. and this is breakbeats. not that lame ass 4 count house. how can you fuck up a mix when the beat never changes.. when a houe dj drops some breaks the dancefloor goes crazy - so why not just play breaks throughout.
if anybody wants a copy all you gotta do is ask. i can swipe free stamps at work.

I assume mixing, at OUR age, is like any other artform. You suddenly realize that you aren't doing it to be cool, or become famous, or any of that shit. You do it because you love it, and because you want to experience the end result. Art for art's sake, so to speak. Nice change of pace in my business (and I assume yours as well).
