Bigfoot Thinks

When he is quite still
and the sun rises at the left,
falling on the right.

At night, driving, dark humps
by the road; live oaks and towns
built outside the light.

Still not convinced, debating
politics with a wildflower,
with crows in flight.

Beyond sundown,
beyond timber,
mostly out of sight.

I like that!

I think the third and fourth stanzas are particularly strong.
rstones33:
your use of rhyme was, in my opinion, the correct use of rhyme - it's there, the reader can sense it, it gives the poem momentum but does not overwhelm it in word games

Yesterday started out kind of nasty, like trying to eat raw eggs when I'd ordered them cooked. but it got better by the end.
Tally: One news article in the commercial press, one news and one column in the school paper, one essay in another paper, odds and ends of poetry in funny places like the eskimopie wesbite.
Also by the end of the day,...

i need a job that teaches me things. i hate when work gets stagnant. but i suppose i can only ask so much intellectually from a retail position.

Yeah, of course I read it in the Middle English! Malory is actually getting pretty close to "modern" English. He's an easy read. But I'm working on a Ph.D. in medieval English lit. So that explains my ultimate dorkiness.

The Bullshit Expeditionary Force completed its first and probably only succesful mission, a trip to San Francisco for the Hunter S. Thompson wake. They called it an evening of viscious bullshit and it probably was. High point: Ianthe Brautigan, daughter of Richard Brautiigan, the hippie beatnki writer who blew his own brains out twenty years ago.
It was very touching to hear her talk about...

Was that you
down by the water?

The wind wrapped a blue skirt
around your back like skin
while you waited.

You were a silk woman acting
like it was nothing to be silk

under blooming cherries.

It should be a pretty good day: my article came out, I turned another in last night, and I have two more lined up.
But, I was awakened by a friend who was upset about something I said. Which was repeating something she had repeated about someone else. At least five, maybe six people are involved in the whole debacle. It was a funny line,...

Lunch with the Eskimo girl today. I never know when she'll show up, but we always have a nice time. We walked a few blocks to a little cafe and had sandwiches. She is retired at age 43,(as of this week) but she figures shell have to go back to work again. She was thinking of applying for another job. But I reminded her how...

To die in Milltown, die at six p.m.
The fast train west rattles your bourbon warm.
The latest joke is on the early drunk:
sing one more chorus and the nun you love
will dance out of habit. To live,
stay put. The Blackfoot, any river,
has a million years to lend,....

There are three kinds of people in the world. As I see it. Those you'd never fuck, those who'd never fuck you...and everybody else.
A great deal of life is spent in making that 3rd category the dominant one in your life.
Unless everybody already wants to fuck you. I imagine in that case you'd be wanting to narrow the field down a little.

actually, like the crows in your pics, they do pretty well in the city. Course in my city we have bald eagles that nest near downtown, and peregine falcons living on the freeway bridge... I even saw a pileated (sp? I'm lazy today) woodpecker in the park and I live 20 blocks from the center of downtown. Ok I'll stop bragging now-

how many children do you have and their ages?

The part that really bugs me isn't so much that it's rude to blurt it out to total strangers. It's that it's considered rude even to blurt it out to friends.

I no longer have any fear.
I pretty much accepted mortality as fact a few years ago, but I still had some lingering fear about what might happen in the meantime.
That there just might not be enough of what I need.
That I would be deprived.

That my desires would be unfulfilled.
That I would be lonely.
That I would not get anything worthwhile...

Indeed, and a Defenestrai is one that tosses said aristocrat from the window.

I don't really love anybody
that's ok because I really do love everybody.

One way or another.
Even though nobody really understands me
and I don't understand anybody else.

I don't see people when I go out only backs crowding a train
and faces riding it. It's hard to sleepwalk sitting still but you can
and roll through cushy neighborhoods toward shitholes.

Most anybody can...

Sweetie ... I typed you about 4 of the most brilliant paragraphs I had ever written last night, as promised, and then my computer froze. The music was still playing but the screen was frozen, so I had to do a hard reboot and it never came back up. Soooo ... I guess I burned up my videocard. Should have that situation handled in the next few days, but the most brilliant journal comment of my life is gone forever. I will try to do it again shortly, but it is hard to do more than just a quick hi from work. Have a great day! smile
