the moment. it is the single most important part of our existence. not "the moment" as in reference to our current times or any political or cultural trend, but "the moment" as in a tangible interger on a timeline made up of memories. sometimes these moments are lost to the tumult of our daily routines. we wake up and forget to praise the magnificence of the rising sun. instead, we lament the beginning of another day and flip down the visor in our cars on the way to our jobs. the smell of the air and its seasonal changes is filtered into our cars, homes, and workplaces. it shouldn't be confused with the "i live for the moment" mantra of youth; the everchanging, undying excuses for lifestyle, as if one were needed in this unjust world.
the world itself is a pretty depressing place. there is strife and global poverty in more places than not. war. disease. the envioirnment and its resources are depleating at an exponential rate; the same rate as human population growth; which, if undeterred, will lead us into "critical overpopulation" in less than fifty years.
but we're humans and we adapt. or we really make things adapt to us. and apparently we're good at it. but at what cost?
doesn't this sound stressfull? it stressed me out typing it. that's when i lean back from my back-seat-driver world view and remember to appreciate the moments.
i thought about how young and healthy i feel (yeah, i said young!) and how i am looking forward to a really good meal tonight, as i do pretty much every night. and of my two loving animals that have a great home. and of the peace and serenity i experience on a daily basis as a second class citizen in a first class country. boo! THE CAT JUST HIT MY CAPS LOCK WHILE I WAS TYPINGTHIS AND RUBBED ON MY ARM AND THEN STARTED SHREDDING MY NOTEPAD. it was cute, for a moment. miao!!
battlestar galactica will be on in a moment and then i can relax in my new bed, which i'm sure will be full of many pleasurable moments.
ah, it's the moments that make it worth our silly existences.
