The Prodigy show

I did not go to any music festivals this year but I did go see the prodigy in january which was worth a measly 70 bucks but the experience of actually going to see these motherf__ing psycho aliens (a girl from work said they weren't human) was worth much more.

The Prodigy show at brisbane's riverstage was an evening of mayhem, excess, electronica and violence.
I had not been prepared for it and the bollocking I received was well-deserved.

The mad rush towards the front of the stage as I stood somewhere on the outer area of the 'crush zone' hopelessly expecting a run of the mill techno gig set the tone for the evening. A mass of sweat-soaked, adrenaline-pumped muscled torsos, and 200 tons of testosterone laced with coke and god-knows-what-else is not the best place to be for a 5'5" weakling raver wanna-be weighing barely 65kg.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed 'pumping it up' to these techno wizards, geniuses really as they effortlessly imbued the crowd with their unique brand of euphoria.

The support acts Simian Mobile Disco & Hot Chip were there in spirit it seemed. They were supporting the main act but realised how small they were in comparison so they belittled themselves. There was nothing special produced, they were being heard but mostly not listened to.

So when the headliners came out it was welcome relief and the crowd went ballistic! For a brief second I caught a glimpse of "Keith" the nose-pierced spiky one and the other frontman, the black dude whatever-his-name-is who was sporting a pretty cool new hair-do. Then after that all I could see were arms, the heads of tall people and laser light beams.

Dancing like a madman and surrounded by a massive pulsating crowd of pill-popping teenagers, joyriding twenty-somethings, and middle-aged couples I somehow knew there was no way I was going to enjoy this as much if I was standing at the 'outer' - and much safer - edge of the arena.

The last thing I remember before being tranceported to the astral plane was the call and response by the band who seemed to be entreating us to follow them in their spaceship =>
'...all my brisbane people!... all my people from the gold coast!'
then the drum and bass kicked in. Sweet sweet heaven.

The only good pics that came away from the concert.
