Connecticut has always been a major manufacturer of the most deadliest, top of the line, arms and weaponry for the time. Even since this country began, this state is even historically referred to as "the powder keg of the American Revolution."

In the Civil War, we built the new stock-loading rifles, that replaced the older muzzle loading muskets that the South used until the end of the war. The famous "Colt revolvers" were built in Hartford. There factory was there for the longest time. You can still see the old Colt building when you drive up Interstate 91. it looks like something out of Red Square, repainted to fit American Nationalism.

It's been abandoned for a long time now. Some time in the 70s or 80s my dad was working at firestone, and he told me that people would come by and try to sell hot items to the mechanics there. One guy had some brand new unmarked handguns from the factory. they were taken from the factory before they could even be stamped with a serial number. there was no old serial number that was scratched off to prove otherwise.

In East Hartford, there's Pratt &Whitney. P&W built the P-51 Mustang fighter planes that shot down German messcherschmidts over Europe and Japanese zeros over the pacific. Later on, they designed the M-16.... and if you ask any Vietnam vet, they'll tell you that that gun is a piece of shit. They were made for very high performance, and are very precise. As a result, they jam up easily. Lots of vets picked up AK-47s from dead VC's and used them instead. Those worked beautifully, because they were very simple guns. We lost that war, but it had little to do with the M-16.

Other than P&W, there's Sikorsky aircraft in Stratford and Electric Boat in Groton. Sikorsky builds high tech attack choppers like Apache helicopters and the Black Hawks. The Apache's have this thing in them, that connects the pilot's helmet to the guns, so when he or she turns their head, the guns move in that same direction. I'm not big on mass destruction, but you've gotta admit that that's kinda cool.

EB makes the silent submarines and the Nuclear Subs. Top of the line stealth material. The enemy has no chance when they don't know you're there. Both guys running for congress in this district last year made big statements about "not letting them close down the sub plant in groton"....like they ever would.

i don't know where to leave off with this.

I've been getting over a cold this week, so i'm sorry if my responses slowed down because i was pretty feverish for a while and it hurt to stare at a computer for too long.

I hate guns sooo much. I am just a pacifist, what can I say? The colt building isn't abandoned, it's subsidized artists' lofts now! My mom's boyfriend lived there until he moved in with my mom last week. I dunno about the SGCT thread, I haven't been checking it. I really wasn't trying to stir up controversy...I just tend to express honestly whatever's on my mind, and right now I'm really affected by the stupid stupid Iraq war, more so every time I meet a cool person whose life the President wants to sacrifice for a lie!
