if you have not seen THE WRESTLER go out and watch it.

I just saw it last night and it is one of the most amazing movies I have seen in a long time. It's about a wrestler who used to be really famous then became a washed up has been who ends up wrestling at VFW halls and highschool gymnasiums. the character is portrayed really well.

you really get a feeling for how sad and lonely this guy is. the music is all 80s hair rock... you really feel like this character randy the ram robinson is a real person. i won't ruin anything, but the first scene with his daughter was where the whole thing begins to sink in. he's a sad, lonely, pahtetic guy who goes to strip clubs and hits on strippers.

i grew up watching wrestling in the 80s and 90s. I had all the toys back in the 80s and I went to see the WWF when it came to the hartford civic center. i started watching ECW hardcore wrestling when i was 15 or 16. Guys like The Sandman and Terry Funk were way too old and beaten up to put on a show like when they were younger, so they would just show up, get smacked around, thrown into barbed wire, slammed through tables, slammed on tacks, then they'd piledrive the other guy onto a chair and get the pin.

Remember Jimmy Superfly Snuka? and King Kong Bundy? they were big names back in the day. they disappeared from the WWF and one time when I was about 16 I remember they were making some guest appearance to wrestle at a car dealership in wallingford. i kept seeing the commercials and being like "should i go down there? naahhhh..." Captain Lou Albano came down to the Norwichtown mall to do autograph signings a few times. I never heard about it, but a friend of mine just casually ran into him and bullshitted with him for 20 minutes because noone was there. kinda sad, but that's what made the movie so good because it was a realistic portrayal of a washed up wrestler.

eventually i lost interest in wrestling. i saw some of the early Ultimate Fighting Championships and I moved on to UFC because the fighting was real. but i still remember the old wrestlers and I still consider myself a fan to some degree.

and now i leave you with the king of fallen wrestlers on a downward spiral.... the iron sheik
