So this is 2006...
somehow I don't feel any different.
New Year's Eve started off a bit rocky, but ended up being quite a bit of fun. I was having company that night so I had to spend a fair chunk of the day cleaning up all the mess I didn't have time to deal with during the whirlwind of Christmas and boxing day. Christmas involved a lot of driving and not much relaxing, but it was still nice to visit some people. I got some fancy new running gear and a swanky new yoga mat so I can't complain. smile
Back to New Year's. I was in a pretty pissy mood during the afternoon. It just seemed like the mess was never going to end. My boy took off from work early to come and help me, though.
After cleaning and picking up some drinks, I had about 45 minutes to relax before I had to leave for my race. (Resolution Run, 8k, 6:00pm)
Michael dropped me off and took the dog for a walk while I was running. I told him that it would take about 40 minutes. So I was standing at the starting line, in my fancy new running gear, and my ipod (which was working less than a minute earlier) decided that it wasn't going to work. Grrrrrr! So no super fun music for my run. I tried a few times to make it work during the race, but to no avail. frown I don't mind not have music too much... I can probably pace myself a bit better without it, but...
I swear I had to listen to at least 25 people spit. Some of them multiple times. And while this is considered acceptible in the running community.....ew.
Anyhow, I finished in 37:17 (I think, I always forget to stop my watch) and Michael said not too many people finished before me. But, more importantly, I was feeling considerably less grumpy.
A few hours later, we had some friends over for drinks, the hockey game, and a rousing game of Mario Party.
We tried to watch some sort of New Year's count down, but accidently turned it to the Seattle channel (which was still an hour away) and by the time we found something in our time zone we had missed it. Oh well, we still had the champagne.
The point of this story? A good time was had by all.
New Year's day was also okay. Michael wasn't feeling great, so I got up and took the dog for a walk (instead of bugging him) when I woke up. We stopped at 7-11 to pick up gatorade for the poor hungover boy on the way back. Then I made chocolate chip pancakes.
That afternoon we went to a family get together of Michael's near Red Deer. The drive was super foggy so we didn't stay too long. I did get to play with a lot of farm kitties. smile
That's all I have for now.
