I figured out what is wrong with my wireless adapter. The Windows 7 files that control the adapter are corrupt and I only have to delete and reinstall windows to fix the problem.
Now the only problem is getting my hands on a windows recovery or full install disc. I have lost mine somewhere in the 17 moves I have made since getting this laptop.
But this is a step forward and I am Loving the fact that I now KNOW what the heck is wrong with my computer.
