when I first moved into this place, the first two nights I could hear gunshots out and about and a subsequent useless cop chase. it didn't bother me, I've lived in a city before and was used to the sound.

the thing that's weird is that there's some construction halfway up the block, and some metal plates on the street. so everytime someone drives over it it sounds like gunshots in the distance. so weird, cause it's like every five minutes. just a little unnerving. but then, it's just one of those nights.

there's a cop that hangs out at the local rock/alterna club called Black Cat, which is basically like my living room after 8 years. a lot of other people too, apparently. it totally bums me out to have a cop hanging out in uniform, every night, in a place that I used to feel really comfortable. maybe he's a cool cop or whatever. I really don't care, but he's all dressed up cop-style and, it's a bummer. don't need that, really, we don't.

anyway, it was none-the-less a great night. lots of good friends all smashed together. it's good to see people positive. I think it's contageous. </hippy> but whatever. it's a lot more pleasant than the surly indie-rock mopey bad-bar hang that dc is really good at the past few years.

anyway, lots of merriment. lots of police activity around DC tonight.

just going to listen to the cars pretending to be gunshots as they go by.
