Mom has been here for 6 days now. It took me to day 3 to realize that she is starting to become senile. 
On day 2, I was sure it was just because she was tired & overwhelmed with everything that was seen/told to her on day 1. But, come day 3 when I was explaining things for the 4th time, I knew it wasn't excitement any longer.
Yesterday we were in the shoppette when she pointed something out and asked if it was Sake. We (Alan & I) told her yes. then she pointed to (that wonderful, knock-you-of-your-socks) green bottle with a yellow label & red writing and asked what that was. Alan told her it was Soju. She then states "what is soju?" We looked at each other in disbelief, then he asks her, "Are you joking or are you really becoming senile?" She looks back & forth at us with the most confused look on her face as we explain to her that this is the 6th time that we have told her what Soju is since she's been here.
We all end up having a good laugh about it, but I think it bothers her a little bit, and I know for a fact it bothers me a lot. I don't like repeating myself, so having to do it 6 times is taking quite a toll.
But in the end, it's all good. It's Mom & like most children (I hope) you do the best for your parents.
She's got 4 more days here...I know Alan & I will try to make them special for her.
Only 3 months and too little days to count until I leave here!!! Good bye Japan!!! I'll be going home on leave for a month, where I'll drive to NC and finally get to meet Alan's family!!! They are sooooo cool!!! Then I'll be going back to Korea for another year, starting in May. Then, come spring/summer 2006....I will begin my 18 month life in Iceland, making bank!!! YES!!!!
Iceland is going to be so great & yet, so sad at the same time. money aside, I know I am going to love it there!! Horses, decent weather (I will be on the southern part of the island in Keflavik), good surf, lagoons, everything......Everything except Alan. After Korea, he will be going to Spangdahlem Germany, probably where he will meet either some blonde german woman or some stupid air force girl & decide in less than 6 months that he loves her & wants to marry her & then I will be out of his life forever. I don't think he realizes how much I am going to miss him. It makes me sad to think about it.
In other news, I'll be starting ALS in January. I'm happy about that. I think Alan might be TDY to 7 level school for my graduation though, but I really really really hope not. He's been the driving force behind so much of who I am today. Him & my mom both. If he isn't there for my graduation, I hope he's atleast around in Korea when I sew on, so he can tack me. It'd be awesome.
