I won't lie, I hate this podunk town. From its awful hipters, to its trust fund kids, to all the huh-huh-hillbillys, I spend most of my time outside of my home in a constant state of annoyance.
But the scenery is gorgeous. And they have a great music scene, which is so underrated that several national acts sometimes only get 25 or 50 people at their shows - allowing for a more intimate experience and time to actually "hang out" with the band you came to see. I'll talk more about that later when I cover the Backyard Tire Fire show from two nights ago.
But, fuck all if the world isn't conspiring to keep me here because of work.
I'd been unemployed for almost 2 years before I got hired on seasonal at everyones favorite big box electronics store. After the season they kept me because I was awesome, but it still looked like I'd ditch this joint at a moments notice.. I'd asked to be transferred to a department I'd be less annoyed with and I was transitioning to new digs when they asked me if I wanted to fill a brand new role for the store. In this new role I'd be responsible for connecting everything we sell to everything else. Its the new direction the company is headed and I'd be the go to guy.
Want high speed internet? I do that. Want to connect your television to it so you can stream netflix? Want to do it wirelessly? Want to play your ipod thru your home stereo and stream it to the other rooms in your house? Want to connect to the internet in the middle of nowhere? Or how about connecting your kids laptops and ipads to the internet while in the car driving across country? I do that.
They have to make me full time, and move me to a department that collects regular monthly bonuses. They also have to send me for regular meetings and trainings across the country on their dime. I'd be an absolute jackass to pass it up, and just a plain dummy to not milk it for all its worth.
So yeah, I still hate this town and 80% of the people in it. But every time my blood pressure threatens to give me a coronary I'll just log into my bank account and settle the fuck down.
For now anyways.

at least that big blu box can be found in lots of cool (non podunk ) towns as well as the bulls eye, so you are free to roam now. congrats !
