In the 6 months since I've lived in asheville;
my dog passed away
i couldnt move into my new place because of flea infestation
still had to pay rent on it though.
i learned it costs almost $300 a month to heat this place
which means we at times have no heat for days - in winter
its drafty
a snowstorm left our car disabled for days
we lost power during it
which meant no heat, no lights, and by then - no car
now, a water main has burst nearby and we have no running water.
Fuck me, I feel like a hobo. Or at the very least, like a damned mountain man. And I hate flannels and beards.
It hasnt been the best intro to the area, and frankly its a little too "appalachiany" for my tastes. We're debating where to move next when we have money, because I wont do this two years in a row. We both hate moving, so if we're going to box up all our shit - it wont matter either way if we're moving 5 miles or 5000 miles. We just need somewhere with a non-failing economy, where the average IQ is at least average, that either has no harsh winters or is at least knowledgable and prepared for them.. and lastly, where the cost of living isnt horrible. I dont feel like I'm setting the bar too high.
or am I?
