... in the car while waiting for my son to get out of work. Last night was the first parents' evening of 2016 and I ended up with an uninterrupted stream of parents for 3 and a half hours. Tonight I am unwinding. Mahler is a nice start, but there will be more indulgences to come. There are episodes of Fargo, Ripper Street and Under...

I'm currently in a computer room trying to work out how to do one of the most poorly thought out training exercises our management has ever conceived. Happy days.

Much as I would like to, I don't access this site 24/7. (It would be nice if I could, but, you know, there's boring stuff like work and exciting stuff like watching Flash and Arrow with my better half and lots of granddad cuddles on which I get to spend my time. :) ) So, I miss stuff. Sometimes, it's nice to be gently prodded...

There's a competition running over on the SG Instagram to see who should be the new profile pic for the SG account. All four girls would be excellent choices, but I've gotta say I think @sophoulla has the edge. :D

I have to agree she's very cute. I couldn't find a way to like all the photos at once. I hope you don't have to vote on each photo because there is a large number of photos to have to do individually.

@MrSoul Instructions are on the SG Instagram page. I believe you need to repost the above pic with the hashtag of the girl you're voting for. @sophoulla You're very welcome and good luck in the contest! :)

I've not done this for a while, but there have been some great hopeful sets recently that I've really enjoyed. Here's five of 'em...

@lorii from London is just gorgeous, and her set Cat Lady showcases that very nicely. I love her natural beauty and her cute body art. And those eyes... I could just lose myself in those eyes! This set is her fourth...

We've got a new starter in the English department this term. She's a very personable woman and she's an NQT (newly qualified teacher) so the department has been helping her out, settling her in and generally trying to warn her of the various idiosyncratic (a word here that means "utterly insane and manifestly counter-productive") practices that tend to proliferate in a school that's run as...

This is just a quick update to say that I know I haven't blogged in a while and feel a bit bad about it. Things are busy (as they generally are during term time), but good. I mean really genuinely good. That's not to say that the existential worry about the job has gone away entirely but it has receded quite a bit, which is......

Thanks, everyone. @Miss_smiff, the food is something I didn't mention, but, yes, it was amazing! So very rich and tasty. My father-in-law took us out to eat most days and the food was just incredible. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, my wife and I were visiting her father who moved over there a few years ago. It was lovely. Really lovely. (I suppose I should get a move on and post some pics at some point.) I'm back at work now, but I must say I came back the most relaxed I've ever been! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I know I've been quiet the last few weeks. I've found it difficult to keep up with things, partly because work's been so busy. Last week, I visited Cambridge, taking some of our students there for the university's open day. While the journey down was a bit of a nightmare (spending all morning on the M6 was not in the itinerary!), once we got there,...

@Miss_Smiff I love both Cambridge and Oxford, but Cambridge is just that little bit more relaxed and, I think, friendly. :) This time round I did very little exploring. Once I'd done what I needed to with the students (they got a fair amount of free time to go off and visit a few colleges/faculty buildings), I just wandered round a few bookshops, bought a hat and a book on the ancient Greeks from the local Oxfam shop, and sat under a tree reading for about three hours. It was bliss! (And very civilizing!) :)

Oh, and teaching assistants are probably the most under-rated professionals working in teaching today. A good teaching assistant makes such a difference to a class. Compared to teachers, they have a very different relationship with the pupils and can make such a dramatic impact on pupils' learning - and, for that matter, their lives in general. I have the utmost respect for TAs. We've got some great ones at our place; the school would be considerably poorer without them.

I've got some catching up to do. A lot, actually. I try to peruse each and every set that's posted on the site, but it's difficult sometimes to keep up. Below are a few SG sets that have kind of stood out to me over the last few weeks. My usual disclaimer about these not being in any way a 'definitive' list absolutely applies here....

all these girls are gorgeous!! Thank you so much for liking my set! It is quite simple, I'm glad it still gets the job done though :)
jezzied:
@skyhook That it does! Most definitely! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I should point out that I'm well aware that what is simple in concept isn't necessarily straightforward in execution. Sometimes the appearance of simplicity requires a heck of a lot of forethought and effort. I have a great deal of respect for all the photographers whose work graces the site, and indeed for the girls who work so hard, too! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Is it just me or has this month flown by? I've been unable to visit the site as often as I'd have liked this month for a variety of personal and work-related reasons, so I've spent the last couple of days trying to catch up on what I've missed. The hopeful sets have been impressive this month - so many eye-catching photos, some great themes...

My initial comments on the first few episodes of the frenzied madness that is Attack on Titan can be found here, if you haven't read them already. This is going to be a shorter reflection on the series as a whole and what I think of it. If you've not watched Attack on Titan, you should. It's on Netflix currently and is 25...
