So the Halloween party was okay, but not because of the party, but because of the people. Neil and I talked through the entire night, mostly about comic books and zombies, though his girlfriend seemed to have issues with us talking so much. There really are few things lamer than jealous girls, this includes Phantom Menace and people who think Tennessee Williams is anything but awesome sauce. I ran into a bunch of other folks that I hadn't seen in a long time, exchanged phone numbers with a handful of them and made some new friends with these comic geeks from Wisconsin. Most everyone was really nice and friendly. There were multiple bonfires but it rained all night long, so they weren't incredibly exciting. There were a few screamo bands, none of which had bass players and they all had the same drummer. There were hilarious looking emo girls there who drank coors light but were too skinny to talk. They worked really hard on looking sad and serious while really corny music played. I'm fairly sure they were fucking the guys in bands. I stayed until about 1 and then people disappeared to get tacos but it seemed like they were gone for a long time so I took a nap in my car and took off. I need to call Neil and Grant some time next week and try to maintain some friendships. Neil said he wanted to start hanging out with me, though we've never really hung out other than at work or in big groups. I might have a comic book/music nerd friend.
While I was there I talked to Grant, who works for this giant Lowes distribution center that was recently built in Rockford. He talked me into putting in an application to work in the warehouse, work that sounded very similar to the job I did at UPS for nearly 4 years. They have benefits such as insurance and they have a tuition reimbursement program, just like UPS did. It's an amazingly convenient plus for someone who's trying to go to school. It sounds like the shift is 7pm until 4am, which isn't thrilling, but it's not terrible either. That would let me work another job until school starts and give me plenty of time to take classes once january gets here. It sounds like the Hertz job will work out and my hours there will only go until the early afternoons, which means I could take a nap between jobs if both worked out. I'd really like to just work my ass off for two months and get my act together before school starts. So yeah, for the time being, I have a plan.
I just have to get it moving. Fast. Dave is still hurt so I'm basicaly temporarily laid off with no real income other than picking up a few hours at the airport which isn't really doing anything but slowly fighting my negative bank account. But I figure things are going to get better or the biblical apocalypse is going to happen. And that's a win-win situation.
