I bought some Christmas gifts -- video games, out of my own pocket -- for a couple of the teens in the shelter, because they needed to get them and because I felt good doing it. I told their mothers to say it was from them, so other people don't ask why I didn't get their kids anything (which they would -- I've learned this the hard way).

I'm not completely altruistic in doing this -- I wanted to feel good about myself for a change, and I'll admit, I kind of wanted to be able to say I did this, especially when I'm hopelessly flirting with girls -- but still, I'm glad I did. I know it made those kids happy, and one of them in particular really needed it at this point.

Every once in a while, I feel like I'm making a mark for the good in the world, however small it may be.
