hello "friends"....
some of you i know personally and some i have selected over the last year to be on my friends list because i thot you were cool but it seems like it is "weeding time" again...i know it sounds childish but i'm about fed up with this disturbing ethnocentric/fundamentalist/hateful slide this country is heading in...
i read a bulletin from an old friend recently that seemed to be disturbed that people cannot say "merry christmas" or anything about jesus in public or certain businesses anymore and how christians are being OPPRESSED by the "left"... and that somehow diversity is a problem in this country.
well, here is a newsflash: no two people on the planet, not even twins, experience life in the same way. people view life, faith, god, jesus, politics...almost everything in a special way. their way. it is great that people find salvation from their demons thru faith, philosophy, and religious affiliations but to think an expansive piece of land that has been called a "melting pot" can be claimed for one religion and certain people...this isn't the country. the founders may have been christians but their slaves and wives, who both couldn't vote would surely disagree....yet you say:
"jeff, let it go...that time and argument has passed. people love women and AFRO-americans now..."
thank you michael richards....and the nypd for loving the black folks!!
our laws are based on christian IDEALS...and every day people like michael richards, mel gibson, rush limbaugh, pat robertson, trigger happy cops...and many others struggle to accept that
fundamentalists of most religions speak of TOLERANCE.
nice try. tolerance eventually wears out, i think.
it is time for ACCEPTANCE. it is time to live "the golden rule"...do unto others as they would do to you...
this is your country, but not everyone is like you. diversity is every where you look...from the man with red hair and freckles to his wife with one leg to her gay brother to the man with tourette's syndrome who lives next door who is a hasidic jew to our dear illiterate president....
merry christmas, happy hanukah, happy kwanzaa, happy canadian boxing day and most importantly this season: happy festivus!!
