today was a cut n paste fast forward dream sequence of people walking fast ala Lost in Translation. I spent the day by myself walking around downtown in an effort to keep cultured by going to see the Minimal exhibit at MOCA and the Street Credibility exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary. Both exhibits were tight, but the Street Cred show was amazing. go see it. now. Diane Arbus is amazing as are her contemporaries in the show. god bless Mike Kelley for curating such an awesome show. just to see "child with toy hand grenade in central park" in person was enough to make the day complete. After the exhibit I decided to wonder around little tokyo and happened upon the Isamu Noguchi exhibit at the Asian American National Museum. I've always loved Noguchi's furniture, lamps and industrial design but this show was on his ceramics. I was bummed at first because the last time I was in NY, his museum was closed, so I was hoping to see some of his works that I was more familiar with, but this stuff was amazing. and a little treat to see.

After the Noguchi action, I roamed around little tokyo some more. thought about possibly getting a massage and settled on retail therapy instead and found myself a nifty little army surplus style cap and a quasi early 80's skate shirt. I was so tempted to buy a skate deck and some trucks and wheels and go skating for the rest of the day, seeing all these little kids in the skate shop brought back a flood of teenage memories.

All in all it was a nice little day with a slight touch of my normal melancholic feeling....

"child with toy hand grenade in central park":

fucking brilliant!

Dern is right. It was a fantastic show. It may even require a double-dern.

And I'll be double-derned... you are the first SG member to recognize my stomping grounds, let alone know someone from the area. Who are you familiar with from Cascade? That's pretty wild.

Beautiful Manu Chao line. Although, I must admit, I required the translator fish as my second is French. Always a feeling of inadequecy when forced to use that damn tool...maybe that's just me.

Ryan McLaughlin I am not familiar with, but I am familiar with the dealership. Huh. Bizarre. At least you have some Iowa-ness. It's a pretty good one to have.

I'm working for a website that legally distributes films online. We're kind of the scrappy/indie company that was not well-funded by major corporations, so porno has kept our head above water as far as revenue is concerned and will continue to do so. I'm kind of their web maven, do all the authoring and site management, put up and test films, etc. -- pretty fun. Looks like either today or a week from today I will have my showcase where I fraudulently claim to be a college intern whose curiosity for porno has led her to become the resident expert on all the adult films. I'll get to pick a porn a week and point out the time codes for when something particularly "hot" is occuring. It's pretty fun. Plus, I get paid to watch porn. I never saw that coming.
