Caught in the Storm

So, I'm sure a lot of Americans are aware of that winter storm that kinda fucked up Atlanta earlier this week. Well, my job is driving down there and back every day, which means I got stuck in that storm. We finally came to a halt at about 5pm Tuesday afternoon, and didn't move until about 10am Wednesday morning. The road wasn't even clear for us, we kinda just used a police turnaround in the median and found a different route. I clocked in for work at 11am Tuesday, and didn't finally clock out until 11pm Wednesday, but work was nice enough to pay us for all of those hours, even when we were stuck and went to sleep. Rather, when the other guys went to sleep. I brilliantly decided that while we were loaded, someone had to stay awake to keep watch, and it ended up being me. So in those 36 hours of being at work, I slept maybe 4 of them.

The Federal Reserve treated us pretty well once we finally got there. They took us to their cafeteria and fed us lunch, then gave us a room with some air mattresses to sleep on for however long we wanted. By that time we were just sick of Atlanta, so we slept a few hours (which was most of that 4 I got), got our money, and returned home. None of us really wanted to stay longer than we had to, because to go into the parts of the building that we did, we had to turn in our guns and be escorted everywhere. I'll happily admit that I don't like being anywhere without a gun anymore. It's not out of fear, but I realize that only I am responsible for my well-being and I'd like every advantage that I can get. As for having to be escorted, it made us feel like prisoners more than guests, especially for the guy who used to work at a prison.

Because we were out so long those two days, work was nice enough to give us Thursday off, which was wonderful. I got to spend the whole day just playing video games, looking at beautiful women, and not planning on going anywhere. Yesterday went especially well, so overall it was still a relatively good week. Today I'm grabbing lunch with my dad, which is kinda noteworthy since I'm the only one in my nuclear family who even talks to him anymore. I don't know why my family doesn't like him, and at this point I couldn't care less. I just think about their hypocrisy when they harp on about how blood relatives are the most important thing in the world, when they treat their own father and the father of her children like a leper. But hey, he's a pretty cool guy, so it's their loss.
