Alive again!

Well, my brother has given me the gift of SG for an entire year (and possibly into perpetuity if he doesn't pay attention). Works out to under a dime a day, which ain't bad at all. I'll have to take him out for coffee once a month or something.

Fortunately, I'm becoming less of a charity case as the days progress. I'm still working at the community centre, although currently it's only Saturday nights, since I seem to be the only person on staff who had Saturday nights available on a consistent basis (le sigh). I do say "had" though, since it seems like Saturday nights have started popping with plays, friends bellydancing at art exhibitions, murder mystery dinner theatres desperate for me to die for them, and oh yes, monthly contact improvisation.

SAT-ur-Day! Saturday! SAAAAT-ur-DAY!

The dinner theatre was a bit of a surprise this week actually, and managed to mow down my other plans, which I almost never make. Friday I was booked to model for a first year drawing class. Originally it was a morning class, but they couldn't find a female model for the afternoon, so they switched my time with a girl who was booked that afternoon for another class anyway (apparently our own jodyroo). The thing was, I had actually been planning on trying out these latin/ballroom dance classes they do every week for $5 up by the university, so I had to rearrange my day a bit so I'd have time to recover from my naked pretzeling and be all dapper for this ballroom thing.

So I get to the class, they tell me they need a little time to set up, why don't I come back in 10 minutes, and I briefly contemplate getting something to eat (it's 2pm and I haven't even had breakfast), check my email, or keep readin my book (Dahlgren by Samuel R. Delaney - if you've even heard of this book, drop me a comment). I go for the email, because I'm obsessive and something might have change in the 45 minutes since I left my computer at home. I check my yahoo account, which I normally only check when I'm bored, and lo and behold, Janet from the murder mystery theatre is begging for me to come out to do a show that night, and we have to meet by 5. Under normal circumstances, I would have stayed the full 3 hours until 5pm for the class, but apparently jodyroo wore them out in the morning class and they let me go after 90 minutes of gestures and transitional poses. Despite so many points where the connection would never have been made, everything was falling into place to get me paid and not go to this dance class.

(Sidenote: the woman in charge of booking models at ACAD was lamenting their lack of female models, as well as the fact that most of them were "thin, 20-year-old students," so if you have a form outside that norm and don't mind the scrutiny of a couple dozen art students, you might want to check it out. Pay's a little under average, I'm told, at a bit over $40 for a 3-hour sitting, but I do it for the ego smile.

So Friday was two episodes of personal meat-puppetry - modelling and murder. I even got to be the body for the mystery, which means dying early on and sitting out the rest of the show, usually while chowing down on a great dinner. I'm told it's not always good food, but so far I'm 3 for 3. All that and $70 for an out of town show (a little sheep farm near Carstairs if you can believe it).

So now I'm thankful I got this extra money and even had fun doing it, but I still have some residual pissed-off-at-universe for blowing my plan to finally see what this ballroom thing was like. I'm not the only person who's this silly, am I?

Well, hopefully tomorrow will be better. I'm hoping to meet up with a friend and give her some oil. (Titanium white painting-type oil, that is, although there's something suggestive about a 5-ounce tube of "tite-white".) Hopefully she's free for the afternoon, because I just found out that Mirrormask is finally playing in town and I must see it fast and I'd like to drag in a witness with me. If not, maybe I'll make a larger event out of it and invite danny_g and Masquerade, who I believe just recently consumed some Gaiman books.

Of course, I may completely blow off Sunday if I keep surfing all night, or watch my downloaded Boondocks episodes, or get this Eve Online game trial working. Geeking vs socializing: who will win this awesome battle?!?

And I think you overestimate how in the loop about art houses working at the fracking Moviedome makes me.
