WoW has kind of devoured my current existence. Anyway, BESIDES the enormous amount of WoW, I've been slowly reading a Canticle for Leibowitz. It was surprisingly good. Not that I had expected otherwise, but it wasn't quite what I had thought it was going to be. Anyway, very well written, very well developed. It leapt around through centuries, and gave little explanation for the current era, however, it was remarkably accessible; even to someone reading it slowly over the course of a month.
I'm also rewatching X-Files. Its actually funny to see how many sideline actors in here appear in large roles in later science fiction television. I'm only in early mid season three right now, but I'm really enjoying it. I don't remember it turning to crap till it hits season six, so we'll have to see how it goes this time through.
As far as my weekly shows go, Stargate Atlantis has turned a little sour. The first half of the season was amazing, but it's turned a bit sour of late. I feel like I'm being too hard on it. There was really only one episode which I would actually call bad, the others being alright. Then there's Supernatural. It hasn't really been better than usual, but my love for this show is definitely still growing so I'm enjoying it more now. Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles has been surprisingly good. I was only watching it for Summer Glau, and some left over love of T2, so I thoguht of it in the same breath with Drive or Miracles. T:SCC has actually proven itself to be worth watching on it's own merit, though, not merely the connection to Joss whedon. Finally, on the other side of the spectrum, Smallville and Torchwood have kept true to form. Translation: they SUCK. Smallville is desperately trying to recapture their high points by throwing guest chars at you, but they are just failing miserably. Torchwood has actually been improving, but that doesn't stop it from sucking. Etc etc. it's too depressing to really talk about. All I can say is I'm really longing for the return of Doctor who.
EDIT: The Stargate universe has never been the deepest of Science fiction franchises. However at some point it seems to have become a franchise of spectacle. I just watched the most recent ep of SGA. As long as one goes intot hese eps knowing this basis on spectacle, this was a fantastic episode. Plot was crap, somewhat lacking resolution, etc. However, it featured a teamup between Ronon Dex and Teal'C. For this reason, it was amazing. Thid has become a pattern in SGA. While SG1 suffered in the late seasons from the focus on their mediocre plot, SGA has been ignoring their season/series arcs quite a bit, and even ignoring the individual plots when it comes down to it. Instead you find some great character moments and some great action. In contrast to what I said earlier, I am quite content with the state of SGA right now.
