Jaws 1-4
I don't much like Steven Spielberg. He feels the need to constantly reaffirm traditional family values and the importance of the family unit. It can be really annoying. Jaws was better than most of his films, though. The first half of the film is much as expected. Family values in the face of crises and political corruption, incompetence etc. However, the film transforms into a story about three men on a boat. The characters are well designed to complement one another. The character of Quit, however, was poorly acted. I think he was supposed to be funny, and possibly endearing, but he was annoying as hell. His overactung made him seem like a cartoon character. The second half reminded me a great deal of Moby Dick, minus the reigious metaphor. The best part of Moby Dick was the understanding that the humans found worship by hunting and attempting to destroy God. It is a mark of how well the film was constructed that I still gave it a 7.

While in Jaws, the shark was intelligent and strong, it was still just a shark. Jaws 2 was amazing because the new shark decided to design its kills to be as ridiculous as possible. The shark hunts down and catches a waterskier. It does not destroy the plastic rafts on which the children float, and instead waits until they are about to be rescued and pulls a helicopter out of the air and destroys it. The film felt as if the writer had tried to create a follow up story and then the shark portions were created entirely separately by someone who had entirely different motives. Its amusing that the aspects which seemed like they tried on were the ones which were boring, and the stupid elements were the ones I enjoyed. I gave it a 4. That shark was soo damn cool. It was tormenting the children, not eating them.

Jaws 3-D. and Jaws: the Revenge sucked. Each movie had one redeeming quality. They each had one scene of incredible stupidity. I'm really bad with these spolier warnings. There are probably spoilers in everything I have written, but anyway, I am warning you about these ones. In Jaws: the Revenge. The movie sucked up until the ending. An almost certainly dead Michael Caine returned as if nothing had happened. A character who was eaten on scrren by the shark returned floating and alive later on. and the ship impaled the shark in a veritable joust. It was one of the most ridiculous climaxes to any movie I have seen. Jaws 3-D's amazing moment was one of my favouriote kills in any movie. Even though the shark was off screen the entire time. Two men are in a small inflated life raft. One goes under water. he is presumably eaten by the shark. The other looks over the edge and just happens to fall in the water. he is eaten as well. now the moment of greatness is when the shark returns to eat the empty life raft as well. He returned to destroy the evidence of his crime, and due to this was not discovered until some time later. The shark was so intelligent that he actually destroyed the evidence of his crime. It was amazing. Jaws 3 and 4 each get a 2.

I think there are other things I was going to talk about, but I;m not sure what they are for the moment. I suppose that is all.
