Sadness

A bit of a downer, but need to be brutally honest. The US Supreme Court, one of the three branches of our Federal government, has confirmed my fears about the country that intensified in July of 2015. The country that I was born and raised in is becoming an autocracy.

Women's rights, the basis of pretty much every post on this site (which I joined in 2003), no longer matter in this country. The rights of the LGBT community...those of immigrants to our country, no longer matter. Indeed, unless you are a White Male (which I admit I am w/o a problem) you have no rights except to be discriminated against. Unions, Religious Freedom (also known as Freedom FROM religion), women's & children's & minority rights.....all gone. As a healthcare provider, I find I live in a country where healthcare is for the privileged few, not a right for all.

Therefore my wife and I are leaving. We have accepted jobs in NZ. A country where a young woman is Prime Minister...whom just had a baby; and when some idiot complained while she was pregnant, shot back that women multitask all of the time. A country where domestic violence of any kind is a crime, and prosecuted. A country where it is a crime to hit a child. Where healthcare is a right....NOT a privilege.

I feel badly for our adult children, but suspect they will all work to make the place better. But I have lost the fight, they understand.

Any US SG's out there, keep up the fight against this incredibly reactionary government that we now have. Make sure they pay for their backward way of thinking. I have fought for many years; it is up to you to make the changes in the US that would make it the country the world once thought it was.

Thank you @unita.  We must fight for the rights that all humans have.  But I had to move.
