Initially, I planned to journal less frequently, but my new friends been so damn friendly and responsive that this site has quickly turned into the daily obsession that I hoped it wouldn't. Well shit, there's worse additions than cool people and naked boobies.

I was gonna talk here about my rather humbling experience catching a shark this evening (no, thats not slang, I actually caught a mud shark while fishing today), but it's been brought to my attention that I have photo accompanyment for a funnier story from same said expedition, so lemme at least keep it fishy.

So I'm visiting my folks this weekend, and late afternoon, we went out for some fishing. I've never been much of a fisherman, but hell, living in LA, how often does one get the chance? . . . and no, the Santa Monica pier doesn't count. . .

Things are quiet on the water and I'm kinda bored, but before long, I realize I've got a bite, so I start to reel it in. I couldn't see the fish yet, but it was pulling up a helluva fight, such that I didn't think I'd be able to reel it in without breaking the pole. Then, suddenly, the line went slack. I figured for sure I'd lost my catch, but then I saw the fish's head appear in the murk. Catfish, for sure; maybe a flounder. At the same time, I also saw what looked very much like a small mud shark, about the same level as my catch, swimming away. I continued to reel in my line only to discover that indeed, I had caught a catfish -- BUT ONLY THE HEAD!!! That damn mud shark had ambushed my fresh filet and chomped his ass up, leaving me with flashbacks of Luca Brasi and Jack Woltz's horse Khartoum (don't feel bad if you didn't get that reference; even I had to look it up to be sure). . . I just tried uploading the photo, but its far over 100 kb. I'll try to crop it down to a more managable size later.

On a much lighter note, I went though some boxes of my stuff and came up with a huge load of old CDs and TAPES. Yeah, that's right, holla if ya hear me on side A or side B, because before dual-layer enhanced DVD+R ROM with the turbo grindshaft and double-axle sprockets, I listened to my music on CASSETTE TAPES!!

And you know what's even funnier than that old school reference are the tapes that I bought back then. The flashes in the pan and the one-hit wonders. The ones you never heard from again. So in honor of how JAYTAN used to do it. . .

Big shout outs to Me Phi Me, Terminator X and the Valley of the Jeep Beats, Professor Griff and the Last Asiatic Disciples, the Stope the Violence Movement, Black Sheep, Tape Kingz, Father Guido Sarducci, Andrew Dice Clay (I've even got that 2-tape DAY THE LAUGHTER STOOD STILL set), Sam Kinison, the Lady B Show on WBLS, DJ Red Alert on KIIS FM, and last but not least, the Talking Heads.

And with that, I'm off to look at boobies (how hot are Ember and Asha? And that candy set with Apnea and Benni. . .

Million Dollar Baby was alright. I have an unhealthy obsession with Clint Eastwood so I might be a bit swayed there. The Machinist and Sin City (on DVD August 16!) were some of the better films I saw this year. Oh, and Ray wasn't bad either; a good film to watch if you ever consider becoming a smack-puppy. Ray = drugs + doing them --> bad detox experience = frown That's pretty much the equation.
