Two days ago I read a really great Commentary in the Oregonian about Bush's (our government's) knowledge of 9/11 prior to 9/11.
If I may interject, I do not think Bush is a good President, I don't care how many innocent people he bombs, his idea of War on the "Axis of Evil" is not enough to convince me he is a good politician much less an educated man. His inability to speak publically, makes me wonder why people love him so much. How can you be the President of the United States of America and not be able to address your country without repeating yourself six or seven times? Has anyone else noticed that every president to ever go into war has had high ratings? It has nothing to do with Bush's ability.
So this Commentary focused on the lack of imagination of our CIA, FBI and our great leader. The fault of 9/11 was placed on the inability to put two and two together to realize something horrible could and would happen to us. "...Someone tries to blow up the World Trade Center in 1993 with a truck bomb, and the guy who did it tells us he had also wanted to slam a plane into the CIA. But we still couldn't imagine someone doing just that to the twin towers on 9/11."-Oregonian Mon. May 20, 2002. Apparently none of our leaders could imagine such a thing, isn't that their job? Anyway, to make a long story short, the writer basically said something a lot of people have thought all along. Reduce our oil gluttony, stop supporting countries that share few of our values. Other countries could support us not only because they are afraid of us, but because we stand for something they feel is worthy to support. And best of all, have a greener USA, and possibly reduce our global warming dilemma, or at least slow it down. The United States is the greatest source of emissions. We love our money, but our own President can't even find room in his budget for our environment. I just think it is too bad.
