1. the HR geiger Alien scared the shit outta me. Gave me nightmares for ages. The beauty of that film though, as with the best "scary" films, are the implied images, where it leaves certain headroom for personal imagination and interpretation. That's what made Blair Witch so scary. That one did scare me. which leads me to

2. the contrast between the silence and the loud noise is the best way to get an audience to jump outta their seat. Blair Witch had no soundtrack. Granted, not DEAD silence, but no foley, no other sound effects to speak of. The creepy children sounds and screaming kid sounds mixed with the dead silence of night added to the terror. People fear uncertainty more than anything else.

3. I've severly entymophobic. therefore, insectoid anything scares the shit outta me. "greys" -- the classic aliens -- have always given me nightmares, and i think it's due to the fact that they're insect-like.

4.once again, we fear what we can't comprehend, so I subscribe to the masked or obscured theory.

5. biological. I fear the beast.

Well, first journal entry in here. Just finished and turned in my final movie project for this session, now it's a week of break and then back to the grind for my documentary class, fuckin A that class has a very high potential suck factor. Oh well, I'll rant about it later.
