A major new revelation for me in 2009:
Curtis Mayfield is the man. Honestly, this shouldn't be a shock to anyone with a love of R&B but for some reason I am just coming around to it. I can't even get past his supposedly minor album "There's No Place Like America Today" to the rest of his discography. The two major highlights in the middle:
"So in Love"
Gimme a fucking break with this songl it's just incredible. I plan to attempt to impregnate many a lady to this song. I want to fall in love just so I can put this on a mixtape for the girl.
"Jesus"

I couldn't be less interested in religion, but I would be tempted to go to church if I thought it was actually as divine a feeling as is evoked by this song.

have you ever seen the ragtime dvd? i'm not saying you necessarily should but i thought you might be able to explain something. there is just one sole deleted scene (and rightfully so, cause it's so ridiculous) in the extras which appears in high contrast b&w despite the film being shot in color. but the thing that i am most curious about is in the scene, elizabeth mcgovern is sitting on a bed topless, but they have blurred out her chest. do you know why they would do that? it was just so weird.
