Saw a bunch of movies this weekend.

Shrek 2 - Excellent, excellent film. Lots of humor aimed at adults as well as kids. They need to make a spin-off Puss *dramatic pause and hand flourish* In Boots movie. I recommend this to just about everything.

Chronicles of Riddick - This is a good film, but not a great film. Vin Diesel is a good actor, but isn't given anything to chew on here. Riddick from Pitch Black reminded me of a cat playing with mice. Riddick from CoR is just a semi-typical anti-hero ("I don't care about anyone... well unless you're in danger, and then I'll try to save your ass... but I won't like it!"). Still it had the excellent Keith David reprising the role of Imam and vissually was done very well. And I do want to see a sequel, so that says something.

Bubba Ho-tep - I'll admit it. I'm a Bruce Campbell fanboy. Having seen just a trailer and a commerical I bought the DVD without having a clue if I'll like it. No worries there. I loved it. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's the story of Elvis Presley (who switched places with an impersonator years ago) who is now old and living in a retirement home in Texas. He's friends with a black man (played by Ozzie Davis) who believes he's JFK. And there's a mummy looking to feed off the souls of the old folks at the home.

It's a dark piece, that explores the way we treat our elderly. The King of Rock and Roll living in a dank old folk home, talking about the growth on his penis, and basically being miserable, not a lighthearted romp here. But it's good. The comedy elements and the horror are subtle. The mummy is hardly scary, but the horror lies in the idea that we all may someday be tossed aside and forgotten by our children.

Isn't Bruce Campbell the shit? I love his movies. I'm a huge fan of Evil Dead/Army of Darkness!
