Let's rant about GCC.

It's horribly run, and horribly designed. About 81% of the faculty are complete idiots and egomaniacs.

There are three main parking lots. One is a small faculty parking lot next to the IC building (LOT 1). Another is a large parking lot across the street from the IC, Health Sciences, and Student Services buldings (LOT 2). The third is the largest parking lot which is directly across Scott Hall (LOT 3).

The majority of student's classes occur in the IC and College Center buildings, and LOT 2 is always filled over capacity because of its size. LOT 3 is never packed because the students dont have as many classes in Scott Hall... yet it's the largest lot on campus. So the problem that happens is that a lot of students park in LOT 1, even though they aren't faculty. And if I come to work anytime after 9AM I end up parking in the very back of LOT 1 or even sometimes having to park in LOT 3 because there isn't a spot.

Let's clear something up. I am a faculty member.

So the college came up with a good idea (on paper) and installed gates which require a special faculty ID card with a chip in it to raise the gates. Here lie the problems.

1. The professors and faculty, both full-time and adjunct and FDU adjunct WILL forget their ID.
2. The 81% of faculty idiots will forget their IDs THEN complain that they shouldn't have to do this because it's beneath them.
3. Until it is clear to the students that this is happening there will be lines at this gate full of students who still think they can get in the faculty parking lot. Since the road leading into the faculty parking lot is one lane, it will be backed up all the way to the main road. Hilarity and complications ensue.
4. The faculty is placing bets on who and when the first person will just ram right through the dam thing.

It's been brought to my attention that EVERY college has this type of faculty. I sadly deal with all of them. There are actual teachers that ask for genuine help, and understand what you did so if the problem arises they know how to fix it themselves. But some teachers (not just the old ones btw) just don't get it. And a lot of the time they aren't willing to understand the technology.... and we are talking about VCR and DVD players. There was only one professor that wasnt like this. He was probably over 85 years old, and he knew all gids and gadgets. It was a pleasure working with someone who was willing to learn.

This college always finds ways to make the most normal of operations the most difficult.
