I'm probably wrong, but oh well.
The more and more I read, the more I am agreeing with Israel's military action. Essentially Israel is a Jewish state, just as every other country in the region are Muslim states. For the past thousands of years these people have been persecuting, killing, and terrorizing the Jews. Israel gets the technology and money to defend herself and that's what she's doing. Instead of just licking our wounds we are fighting back. Hezbollah started this on Wednesday when they attacked an Israeli unit killing 13 and capturing two.
Lebanon is just in the shitty situation. Beirut is getting pummelled by the IAF and they only have themselves to blame. They housed these terrorists, and helped Syria and Iran supply them without any hesitation. They know they have no means to argue why they're getting the horns.
This could essentially be the end of the world. If Iran and Syria set up shop and nationally declare war on Israel, thats when the United States gets pulled in. No other European country will back us. A war with Iran and Syria and Afghanistan AND Iraq is not what we need. Especially with North Korea busting out missiles.
The United States and Israel won't get any help making a coalition of European or Asian powers. Gas prices... oh boy. Worst case scenario 9 bucks a gallon. And people with an odd lettered license plate can only get gas on Mondays and Thursdays.
I don't think it'll get that far personally. Iran and Syria know the United States would intervene, and they would be at the shit end of the stick.
What most people don't understand is that only a fraction of our might is being shown in Iraq. We're trying to fight a war where buildings aren't blown to pieces and the infrastructure stays. If we went to war with Syria and Iran it could be over in 3 weeks. Non stop air raids, carpet bombing, long-range artillery... they would have never wished they were born. They know this... and they won't try to step in.
This CAN get bad, but it won't. It'll end diplomatically with a prisoner swap and Israel has to carve some land back to Lebanon and Palestine... blah blah blah.
