I went to The Hoodwink yesterday. I wish I could go to the whole Bamboozle but I don't really have the money for it and I can't afford to take off from work. SO at least I got a little taste of it.
For those of you who don't know, the hoodwink is a 'secret' concert held in affiliation with the bamboozle - the day before its giant stadium show, in the parking lot. The bands to perform are all listed under pseudonyms and clues are given to help us figure out who the bands are. they were all announced on wednesday and there are 4 stages on which they rotate performances.
It was fucking freezing though! thank god it didn't rain. it wasn't crowded at all, which I enjoyed. parking was fucking $15 though. and tickets were $25. so we got there and walked around a bit while the bands started. Mae was one of the earlier bands but I don't really like them. So we wandered over to the ps2 trailer and played some singstar. saw MetroStation but they were a bit teeny bopper for me. right after them, Finch performed. They were the best band there, in my opinion. they sound great live, they're just awesome. it was in the finch crowd where we were introduced to the assholes of the day. the guys that start mosh pits during every band. that's cool and all but it sucks when you get unknowingly get sucked in to it and get punched in the head.
after that i went to the side stage to see The Sleeping...and I was really looking forward to it because its one of the only bands where i know lyrics to like all the songs. so they come out....as Biker Women...their hoodwink pseudonym and pretty much stay in character the whole time. they were all drinking jack and dressed like....i guess biker guys, lol. and lots of shouting and cursing and general drunkenness. they just bullshitted their whole set, which was funny - but i really wanted to hear them play! they were saying shit like 'the sleeping sucks!'. the dude threw one of his shirts in to the crowd and about five adolescent boys almost KILLED each other over it. like...not joking.
then we all started chanting "if your heart was broken, you would be dead!" which is one of the songs off their first album...which finally coaxed them in to performing that song..then they went in to another off their new album. i was really in to it, and so was the crowd..biggest mosh pit of the night...don't really know why though.
then he started talking about how they were performing with skid row tomorrow and tried 3 times to go in to that song i guess..and he kept telling the band to stop because they sucked. after that damn nonsense some security guys told them that they were finished and to get off the stage. great!! ugh!
after that we saw the end of saves the day....and were waiting for jack's mannequin but he took way too long to set up so we just decided we were done for the day. we missed chiodos and say anything...but i don't really know their music anyway. i wanted to see if there were one or two other completely secret bands but oh well.
and soooome day i will get to see paramore....
