Please support former Pogues lead singer Shane MacGowan and sign the Anti Joey Cashman Petition! Shane has stuck with Cashman through thick and thin, and things have been pretty thin lately. Cashman is to blame at least in some part for the decline of Shane's carreer. He is still a brilliant artist with as much to give his fans as he did 10 or 20 years ago. Please sign this petition.
The last time I went to see Shane was a few years back in Detroit. The opening band Mogue Doyle came on for a great set, but then the crowd waited a couple hours for Shane and the Popes to come out and play. The club management finally came out and told us their would be no show and that we would be refunded the price of our tickets. A fat fucking lot of good that did me and others like me who had driven long hours to see the show.
I haven't bothered to try to go see one of the few US shows Shane has played since. Actually, I'm pretty sure he has not even had another Midwest gig since. He seems to make it to a Paddy's Day show in NYC now and then, but that is not often.
Shane needs a dedicated manager who will haul his fucked-up, alcoholic ass to every show. He missed the show in Detroit that I attended because he got lost in the airport in Chicago. Joey Cahsman has not been willing to babysit Shane for quite some time. However, listen to The Snake or The Crock of Gold and tell me Shane is not still worth being led by the hand to a few shows every couple of years. Hell, if I was qualified, I would love to take the job.

the whole thing ties together quite nicely; the pogues are my favorite band, i wouldn't have gotten to go to thailand if they didn't exist, that song was inspired by thailand, orchids are the national thai flower, and while it wasn't quite summer there, it was about 90 degrees everyday and that's close enough.
