Saturday was a real success. For those of you who read this, none of whom know me any further than what I write on this site, I suppose I should say Saturday was another Croatan show. It was pretty much all crusty-punk metal bands, even Brodys Militia, though they would probably just consider themselves metal heads and be insulted by the term crusty-punk. There was a winter storm warning out earlier that day and it was raining ice when I started down to Cincy in the early afternoon. The goddamned rain kept freezing on my windshield every time I would go above thirty-five mph, but that only lasted until my defroster warmed up, fortunately. I didnt think anyone would be at the show because Cincy folk get freaked out at the slightest bit of real winter weather.
Boy was I wrong. There were well over a hundred people in and out over the course of the night, which is good for Sudsys. I sold over $20 in buttons alone, and I cant remember the last time I sold a CD. Croatan played last, but people started coming up to the merch table as soon as they started. Unfortunately, I didnt get to see much of the show because I was busy selling stuff. Obviously, it was because Jenny and Mark played well (even though Jenny was sick as a dog), but it might also have had something to do with the fact that Ive given up the cloves and the merch table wasnt covered in a cloud. Anyway, I definitely do better selling stuff than I did when I used to do it on the road all tussed up. Hell, I havent even been drinking alcohol lately, much less Robitussin.
I wouldnt mind having a few when I go down to Sudsys, but Im always either the designated driver or I have to get home to feed Nerri, or both. Nevertheless, I dont really miss it. I just bring in a couple six-packs of IBC soda and tip the bartender $5 to fetch them for me all night. I have as good or bad a time as I would otherwise, and I end up with more cash in my wallet at the end of the night. The last couple of times Ive walked uptown to the pubs here in Oxford, Ive ended up with an awful headache because I always go to this German place called the Steinkeller, and German beer sucks. There are no Irish pubs here. Well, I take that back, there is an Irish pub in the hotel, but it is more of a lounge than a pub. They pull a good pint of Guinness and they play the English Premier League games on a huge TV, but I just dont like the atmosphere. Anyway, its just really odd for me not to be drinking and smoking every time I leave the house.
On another note, Jenny says that Croatan will be going out on tour again this fall. That would be the first time in over two years. I was worried that they had hung up their hats for good, but their looking at getting a new tour van and all. Hopefully, Ill be able to make some time to follow them, if theyll have me. At least they wont have to deal with me tussin up anymore.
