This afternoon, at a grocery store, I heard the most depressing song ever written.

So what is it? One of Joy Division's ode to suicidal despair? A Nine Inch Nails song?

No, it's "Let's Twist Again" by Chubby Checker. It's just three minutes of sheer desperation, of a man knowing that obscurity is right around the corner, that his little brush with fame is ending....

So a few days ago, I logged on to the web site of my credit card, and found, much to my surprise, I was paying for someone's cell phone.

Since then, I've had a real pain in the ass trying to prevent any damage. That credit card is now no more (hopefully, I get the new number before it's time to pay for SG again),...

Hi!
cheech:
Yeah, exactly. My only strong misgiving about either movie is that I think The Byrds's "Turn Turn Turn" is really played out... I like the Byrds, and it's an okay song, but should not be used in any more TV shows or movies... especially ones about the '60s.

My car is about 50 miles away from 100,000 miles. Given the fact that my daily commute to work is about 15 miles round trip, I think I'll probably hit it on Tuesday.

I'm thinking about buying a new car, but I don't know what I want. And I've liked being able to use the money I'd have spent on a car payment for other...

I picked up the book Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson today. It's a huge, massive, 900 plus page tome that I'm not sure I'll ever actually have time to read. But it should be a lot of fun when I do.

We're having the first really winter-like day of the year today. It's cold, and drizelly, and I left my favorite jacket at work on Friday,...

My big activity for the night: I am watching "The Big Lebowski".

Fuck Citizen Kane. This is the best movie of all time.

"Did I urinate on your rug? Hello? Do you speak English, sir? Parla usted Ingles? I'll ask you again. Did I urinate on your rug? I just want to understand this. Every time a rug is nicturated upon in this fair city,...

So this morning, at about 8:45 or so, I got a wrong number call on my cell phone from the same bitch who's called me the wrong time several times. And here's how it goes:

Me: Hello?

Wrong Number Bitch (hereafter abbreviated WNB): Hello.

Me: Who is this?

WNB: (somewhat testily) Who is *this*?

Me: You have the wrong number.

WNB: (very testily) Yeah. (Hangs...

I am very glad to be home now, because I wasn't sure I'd make it here, after the drive I just had.

So I decided to go get some takeout for dinner. I see a storm is moving in, but I think that I can make it, because the place I'm going is barely two miles away. I beat the storm there, but when I...

Days like this make me glad I actually work days and I miss daytime TV.

Here is what is before me now: Jerry Springer is on. The topic is "You can't tear me apart." This hillbilly woman came out talking about how her husband has left her for another woman. This made me wonder: this is too standard-issue for Springer. So I knew something had...

So this morning, at about six a.m., my sweet kitty turned into Super Demon Hellcat.

Here's what happened: I was awakened by this really loud, awful moaning. It sounded more like a sound a dog might make, really. I walked towards it and found my cat standing in front of the sliding glass door to the patio, in full attack stance. On the other side,...

So I'm ridding myself of my DSL line, going to replace it with a cable modem, which is way faster and cheaper.

Unfortunately for me, I have to pay $50 to disconnect it. I protested, they sent me a copy of the form I submitted to order where it says in big letters "$50 disconnect fee", so I'm kind of stuck.

My recommendation for anyone...

I had to get DSL when I moved into the city... they just don't offer cable modems here. So I had to get a phone line, just for the DSL. I never use the landline, just my cell phone, yet I'm paying $30 a month for the landline and then $45 for the DSL. My cable modem service was $30 a month. This is ridiculous.
jake_lex:
Update on the cable modem: I called the cable company to set it up. Adding the cable modem charge, my cable bill now will be $20 a month less than my combined cable and DSL bills were.

But I'm stuck on damn dialup until then mad
