So this morning, at about six a.m., my sweet kitty turned into Super Demon Hellcat.

Here's what happened: I was awakened by this really loud, awful moaning. It sounded more like a sound a dog might make, really. I walked towards it and found my cat standing in front of the sliding glass door to the patio, in full attack stance. On the other side, on our patio, was a cat I've seen around here a few times. That cat was in attack stance too. If there hadn't been a big plate glass door between them, it would have been on.

I managed to run the other cat off by sort of lunging towards the plate glass window, and it ran away. My cat was still freaked out by the whole thing, so I picked him up to try to calm him down. I guess I picked him up too early; he didn't really attack me, but his claws were still out, and he left a nice gash about two inches long on my left side. (I was so freaked out about what happened that I just ran in there without putting anything on.)

Anyway, now that his territory is safe, he's back to being a sweet kitty now. But it's a bit freaky, sometimes, to see a pet, well, behaving like an animal. We anthropomorphize our pets to such a degree (there's your Big Word for the day, boys and girls) that we think of them as our children, as little humans. Sometimes, something happens to let us know that my cat, for example, is closer to a lion or a tiger than a human. And that's a somewhat discomforting sight.

That's what I'm here for. wink

Seriously, though, how often do you get to use the word "anthropomorphize", anyway?
