I just to have a really good conversation with one of my best friends. We are both lucky to be alive thanks to our shenanigans during college, and him especially so having been involved in an accident that got heavy TV coverage given the fact he hit a city bus full of passengers, injuring 27 of 34 on board. He has been dry since the accident, going on 2 years. He's never approached me about cleaning up, and has kept his recovery his, and concentrated on the person he's sponsoring etc.

He was excited to hear that I have been sober for 12 days now, and he is encouraged by the things I'm saying to him, i.e. he knows I'm for real. I love him a lot, he is like the brother I never had. His sobriety and my drinking were never *really* an issue between us. But we have connected on yet another level, and it feels great.

I'm actually surprised that I'm making new friends with sobritey. With the hazy drunken mind, the perception is that friends and social life end when the bottle gets put down. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I'm surprised how many lies that bottle has told me in the last several years.

Life is good.
