I had another real life example of why I decided to get cleaned up and live a sober life.

One of my best friends of the last 5 years was arrested Sunday night for his 5th DUI. 4 in the last year. How he was not behind bars after his second escapes all of us around him, but he is behind bars indefinitely at this point.

To compound matters he's not a US citizen and could very likely jump bail and return home, not receiving any help for his problem and ultimately who knows...

He would have to get bailed out in order for that to happen though, and we (his friends) have collectively decided not to bail him out this time. A different person in the group has bailed him out the last 4 times, and we're done. His parents are out of the country, and have been kept in the dark about the this and the previous 3 DUI's so he is unlikely to contact them. He has a brother in Toronto who is the most likely to come through, but that could take some time.

I lost a lot of sleep over this last night, knowing he's in a bad place and that he's powerless to his addiction at this point. I hope this is the event that leads him to the straight and narrow, and I'm willing to accompany him to meetings. But he may be deported--or leave on his own accord-- and I won't have the opportunity.

On a lighter note and much more possitive, I'm closing on my refi tonight. So bye bye credit cards, and sweet relief on the horizen.

Wow. 5?!?!?!?! That's incredible, what's he facing, jail time wise? I have one under my belt, but Lord knows I deserve more.....I think I've finally learned to leave my keys at home if I plan on HEAVY drinking...
