I'm having yet another fascinating night in, and tonight I'm watching Star Wars Episode III. 'But why?!' I hear you cry. Well, when I went to see it at the cinema the night it came out (12.30am showing) I missed about 20 minutes in the middle because I fell asleep. I wanted to see if I was missing out on anything. And so far - I'm 33 minutes in to the film and I'm updating my journal - it tunrs out I wasn't missing a lot.
That opening sequence? The pretty space battle? DULL. If episodes I, II and III had been the first three films, there's no way episodes IV, V and VI would ever have been made. You want decent sci-fi, go watch Serenity.
Anyway, back to reality. I started back at uni after the Christmas break on Tuesday. Yes, my Xmas break lasted 6 whole weeks. Love the student life. Of course the one down side is that I'm actually supposed to do some work at some work, something I have yet to get the hang of. But that's life.
I've had other things on my mind anyway, such as my brand spanking new girlfriend ("Oh, me and Xander have enjoyed spanking...") - the one I wrote about in November. Got together at the end of December and we're having a great time. Which is just dandy! Only problem is that she's househunting with her mate and I would love to join them, but being a student I have no money at all and so I am stuck still living with the parents. Maybe in the summer after I've worked for 3 months solid and saved some money up I can finally get out. Need some space to myself!!
(Seriously, Lucas really over did the whole backwards-Yoda-speak thing didn't he?!)
Work isn't going quite as well. For some reason I hate it even more now than I did when I was there every day. If I didn't need the money so much I'd quit in a flash. Of course I could always get a job somewhere else like HMV. But then all my wages would go on CDs and DVDs. And that's no good.
(I must have fallen asleep earlier than I thought, cos I'm only 45 minutes in and I haven't seen this bit.)
Musically speaking, I've not bought that many CDs lately, which for me is a bloody miracle. Those I have bought are Arctic Monkeys (think the Streets, only with guitars and actually talented), Yellowcard (nowhere near as good as Ocean Avenue) and Bullet For My Valentine (God bless Madden '06 for introducing me to them!).
And so ends another oh-so-fascinating chapter in......dear GOD this dialogue stinks. Seriously, I could CRAP better scripts.
Where was I? Oh yeah......my life. I'll tell you one thing: it's more entertaining that Two and a Half Men.
But that's really not saying much. ("Hey, it's like that sitcom where there's two dads, except no-one's laughing. Wait, it's the same.")
UPDATE: "Younglings"? Really?!
I just can't shake the feeling that if someone like Bryan Singer, Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams had directed SW:ROTS, it would have been a far better film.
