It's 6 AM and I'm emptying my guts into a cereal bowl. She says she isn't hungry, but her tongue is slipping across her lips in ravenous candle-light flickers. I dig deeper, pushing the dull spoon up, up, up under my ribs, behind my sternum, into the hunk of chambered muscle that drums like an angry pendulum in a batcave church tower. It pulses, I pulse, she watches me, slides black jeans up her skinny hips, her eyes flutter dark in the shadows of early morning.
Just have some breakfast, my words feel heavy, my knees feel weak. My heart waltzes, leaking like melting lipstick, slow and thick and glossy red. It deflates like a punctured balloon, I deflate like an unwanted blow-up doll, but I still scrape at that beast in my chest until it falls piece by piece into her dish.
She drops to all fours and her fangs start to show. As her beautiful mouth curls into a snarl, I open my arms. She ravages my love like it is only meat.
